MIINT

The Turner MBA Impact Investing Network & Training (MIINT) is an experiential lab designed to give students at business and graduate schools a hands-on education in impact investing. It is an initiative of Bridges Impact Foundation, and is conducted in partnership with the Wharton Social Impact Initiative. The Turner MIINT program has become a leading experiential education platform that trains the next generation of impact investors. Turner MIINT has brought together over 2,500 students at 26 top business schools from around the world into a growing network of students and practitioners focused on impact investing.

Project Pyramid

Project Pyramid is a Vanderbilt University course that addresses issues of poverty in an interdisciplinary classroom and through sustained partnerships with local and international organizations. Its members learn to recognize multiple poverties from one another in the classroom and from individuals and organizations that encounter poverty firsthand. Graduate students respond to knowledge gained in the classroom through collaborative partnerships by engaging in action to alleviate poverty.

During the 2022-2023 academic year, Project Pyramid will be held during Mod 3 and Mod 4 (Spring semester) by TFC Director Mario Avila. Applications for the Spring 2023 semester are now closed.

Social Enterprise & Entrepreneurship

Social Enterprise & Entrepreneurship is a two-credit course offered in Mod 4 (second half of Spring semester). The course will explore the spectrum of activity in the growing social enterprise arena, where business models and entrepreneurial approaches are increasingly being used to directly address social and environmental issues. Topics addressed will explore nonprofit, hybrid, and for-profit social enterprise models, the intersection of social entrepreneurship with capital formation issues, international development, technology & innovation, global health, cross-sector models, and microfinance as a case study in social enterprise & innovation. Course content will include a combination of instructor lecture, readings on focus areas, guest speakers representing the leading social entrepreneurs and social enterprises in the field, and a group consulting project in which student teams partner with social enterprises.

This course counts towards the following MBA emphases: Entrepreneurship; Sustainability & Social Impact.

 

Social Impact Certificate

The Social Impact Certificate is designed to give Vanderbilt students of all disciplines the ability to focus on social enterprise and impact by engaging in various programming and coursework. This certificate is designed to develop leadership skills, gain experience through hands-on learning, and better understand how the social enterprise space works. Students then have the ability to leverage these strengths and apply their knowledge toward their area of study and career.
